Baked Apple French Toast (Make Before Bed)

My mother-in-law often makes this when we stay with them in the cabin.  The printout says, “This recipe is from Now…you’re cooking! http://www.donogh.com/cooking/

1/4 cup butter

1/2 cup brown sugar

1 Tbls corn syrup

2 apples, peeled & thinly sliced

1/2 loaf French bread, sliced

2 eggs

3/4 cup milk

1/2 tsp vanilla

The night before: melt butter, stir in brown sugar & syrup. Spread in the bottom of a 9×13″ baking pan. Arrange apple slices over top.

Place bread slices over top of apples.

Beat eggs until light. Add milk & vanilla. Pour evenly over bread. Cover and refrigerate over night.

In the morning: Heat oven to 350. Bake, uncovered, for about 40 minutes, until bread is golden brown. Serve with syrup.
